Le Nez du Vin

Make rapid progress in tasting

Le Nez du Vin® contains a collection of aromas and a companion book to help you progress quickly in wine tasting. This will allow you to:

1. Train and enrich your olfactory memory

The sense of smell is the most important sensory organ when it comes to perceiving a wine . It is responsible for 80% of the pleasure of tasting it. You have probably already noticed that when you have a cold, you can no longer taste anything.

It is often difficult to detect an aroma in a wine glass.
Have you ever had the feeling that you knew a smell without recognizing it? That's normal! Just like reading, writing or arithmetic, you have to learn to smell .

Le Nez du Vin® is not only recognized by professionals, but is also fun to use. Choose the aromas at random, smell them carefully (especially blind), classify them, try to name them and check. After just a few weeks, you will be able to identify, recognize and, above all, name these aromas.

2. Better analyze tasted wines - but what's the point?

First of all, by recognizing the aromas, you enrich your tasting vocabulary. Being able to put your impressions into words increases the pleasure of tasting and allows you to share your experiences with others .

Furthermore, the aromas of the wine give us information about the variety and geographical origin, the type of winemaking and the aging process.
The accompanying book serves as a guide. It represents the link between the aroma collection and the wines tasted and contains a list of typical aromas arranged by grape variety and growing region in France and worldwide.

Refine your taste

As a novice, you like white wines with pronounced notes of fruits with light flesh (apricot, peach), flowers (rose, linden blossom) and honey.
Thanks to Le Nez du Vin®, you now know that you can enjoy Gewürztraminer and Muscat grape varieties with confidence.
Gewürztraminer is mainly grown in Alsace and Germany. The most common notes of this particularly aromatic wine are lychee, rose and clove.
There are several varieties of Muscat, all of which are characterized by a high terpene content, which gives the wine its open, pleasantly fragrant character. Muscat grapes are mainly grown in the south of France.

Become a wine detective

As an aficionado, you taste a glass of white wine. By practicing regularly with our aromas, you will be able to perceive notes of hawthorn, toasted hazelnut, butter and vanilla. They are an indication of the grape variety and the origin of the wine, as well as the winemaker's methods of winemaking and aging .
From the book you will learn that this aromatic profile is typical of the Chardonnay grape variety. The buttery note in the wine is caused by diacetyl, a molecule that is produced during malolactic fermentation.
Vanilla is found in wines aged in new oak barrels because vanillin is produced when the lignin in the wood breaks down.
